Space to Create

The Faculty of Creative Industries – prospectus & exhibition stand

Our brief was to design an exhibition stand for Student Recruitment Fairs, and a prospectus for the University of South Wales’s Faculty of Creative Industries. The campaign needed to promote the faculty’s brand-new extension, the wide range of courses and the City of Cardiff as a great place to live and study.

Collaboration

The goal was to make an exhibition stand and prospectus which would stand out from the crowd, and encourage prospective students to sign up for USW’s creative courses. There are many creative courses out there, and we needed to build an engaging stand to attract prospective creative students. The brand-new building for the Faculty of Creative industries—designed to be a hub to encourage collaboration between the different creative courses—while providing a fantastic facility—directed our initial creative thinking.

We wanted a creative which encapsulated both the opportunities that the faculty offers, while also emphasising how the new building will enhance the collaboration between creative students. We developed the headline ‘Space to Create’, and the creative for both the exhibition stand and brochure flowed from there. The brochure featured multi-coloured squares (in the shape of the USW logo) as a key part of its visual design—the individual colours corresponding to the different course areas. The idea behind this, was to emphasise collaboration. Our inspiration came from a famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama who is known globally for her work which uses polka dots to create art.

We have successfully created a prospectus for the Faculty of Creative Industries, and have plans in place for a truly exciting events stand to compliment it.
